After close to ten years and millions of dollars, we now have a state-of-the-art facility in Montgomery, NY that recycles 97% of the materials that comes in the door; only 3%, mostly plastics, is land filled. That compares with an industry average of 30-50%.
Our reputation has grown to the point where we have been asked by the Metro Waste Authority of the state of Iowa to build a recycling facility for them and to train their workforce. As some of you may know, our machinery and staff worked 24/7 for nine months at Fresh Kills after the World Trade Towers attacks to sort and sift materials with FEMA, the Army Corps of Engineers, the FBI and NYCFD and NYCPD.

I couldn't be prouder of all these accomplishments. It was a long haul beginning with very small roots over many years. Underlying it all was one simple but profound idea: Let’s find the gold in what others call waste.
As one business leader to another, I am here to tell you that putting your focus on profitability and efficiency almost automatically improves sustainability.
NYS Waste Policy
Reduce
Reuse
Recycle when economically feasible
Recover Energy
Landfill waste as a last resort |
It’s a good policy, but for now, the landfills are winning!
I just think of this thing we call “sustainability” or “sustainable economy” as a way for me to control my own destiny. The company that reduces waste at its source saves money AND controls its own destiny.
Recycling & Biomass Recovery: the Taylor Solutions model
