If we have to build our own stand-alone plant we could either use both the steam and gas to heat and cool a very large host like a university, or be a combined heat and power plant that also makes about 12 MW of electric. The Taylor Solutions plant is very flexible in how you set it up and it's not very big. That gives us an advantage in building them right in urban areas that need waste disposal, jobs, tax-paying industry, and renewable power .Customer Needs Drive Taylor Solutions So until the next waste crisis, the Taylor Solutions model is mostly driven by the need for renewable energy and reductions in greenhouse gas and other emissions.  |
For now, we have space in landfills, but it's getting more expensive to ship our waste to them. Landfills and trucks both contribute to smog and global warming. The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is starting to result in markets for carbon emissions trading, and dovetails with a big push for more renewable energy including biomass. In fact, New York's new Renewable Portfolio Standard specifically does not allow mass-burn incineration to count as renewable, but biomass gasification is renewable. One of the big reasons New York residents have fought incinerators and new landfills is that they compete with recycling, so we need local disposal, but people want more recycling and the best available technology for the non-recyclable part. Recycling is also recognized as an important way to conserve virgin resources and energy, which reduces global warming. |
